Where to start exploring it! Certainly all roads lead to Miaoulis Square, with its trademark, the impressive City Hall, the work of architect Ernest Chiller. Around the square, the heart of the city hits, with cafes and nightclubs bustling with life until the early hours.
There is no better start for our day than a walk - discovery in Ano Syros! An archway leads you to the medieval settlement of Ano Syros, the cobblestone streets, the narrow streets and the cozy houses with the flower bougainvilleas. The view from every opening of the houses restrains you!
Walking through the central cobbled streets, Piazza, we meet Mark Vamvakaris square, with his bust, his bronze bouzouki and the inscription "Here was born and lived in the first years of his life the great teacher of folk song and Rebetiko's masterpiece" .
A little further below is the Museum of Mark Vamvakaris, housed in an old two-story house, restored and includes photographs, personal objects, manuscripts, and even tools.
Admire the metropolis of the Catholic community of the island, San Tzortzis, which dominates the highest point on the hill.
In the evening, Ano Syros seems to put her good. Many of the shops that were closed in the morning have opened their doors, the options for drinks and food a lot. For us the historic Lili tavern was one-way.
A walk in Ermoupolis is never enough, so our second and last day on the island was dedicated to her. The state of Ermoupolis is itself a destination. So much to do, so many secrets to discover. At Miaouli Square, with the statue of the homonymous hero, the music stand and the cafes under the paintings, discover the historic First High School of Greece, from where Eleftherios Venizelos graduated and today houses the University of the Aegean.
Continue your tour of the paved streets to the emblematic Apollo Theater, the jewel of Syros. Built according to Italian standards, its striking interiors point to the Scale of Milan, with the vaults embracing the central stage and the red velvet dominating the comfortable chairs and curtains.
A little further down the stately church of Agios Nikolaos, with its impressive dome, which is distinguished by everywhere, and its imposing interior decoration.
Walk to the footpath of Emmanuel Roide and shop out of its interesting shops. Do not forget to take with you the famous loukoumia and the chalvadipite of Syros!
The island is particularly suitable for sea activities, as it has a number of wonderful beaches: Vari, Phoenix, Galissas, Kini and the pine-covered Poseidonia (or Delagratsia) with the neoclassical villas and the elaborate gardens are just some of the paradise beaches of the island.
