If you are been in Greece even for just a few days you will realize that Greece has a lot of cats wandering around turn by turn. A very common sight in many of the cities and villages of Greece are these feline friends who while away their days sitting out in the sun or doing the rounds of restaurants (pubs, cafés, etc) and getting a scrap or two of food from a friendly passerby. But how safe are these cats actually, in their urban environment?

The fact is that how secure your cat is in Greece will very a great deal depend on in which he lives Cats are generally well-fed and very loved in city and tourist areas, people and stores professionally take care of them. There are many people in Greece who feed and water them.. these little babies become cherished.

But in many rural areas, the cats are not so fortunate. Many are abandoned and forced to rely on scavenging for food and shelter. They can become hurt, sick or worse, be subject to mistreatment from humans or other animals.

A major issue for cats in Greece is the absence of spaying/neutering programs. This created overpopulation, leaving many of the cats with limited food and resources. Thankfully there would be those charitable individuals and groups helping solve this problem through the mobilization of spay/neuter and pet adoption for homeless cats.

Overall, cats in Greece have to face some difficulties, but there is not really significant danger and most of them are beloved by the people of the villages they are around. With a little help from loving people and institutions, these little buddies have been carrying on and are continuing to serve others and spread happiness. Therefore, the next time you are visiting Greece, look around and appreciate the cats that live in this beautiful country. They might simply put a smile on your face and some warmth in your heart.
